Why Nitric Oxide Matters
In 1998, the Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine was awarded to Dr. Robert F. Furchgott, Louis J. Ignarro, and Ferid Murad for their groundbreaking discoveries on nitric oxide (NO) as a key signaling molecule in the cardiovascular system. Since then, nitric oxide has become one of the most studied compounds in relation to cardiovascular health, endurance, healthy aging, and overall performance.
At NoxShot, our supplements are built on a foundation of rigorous, peer-reviewed science. Our dedicated scientific team explores the mechanisms and benefits of nitric oxide through clinical studies, collaborations, and independent research.
This article highlights some of the latest findings, published case studies, and research on dietary nitrates and potassium nitrate — the backbone of NoxShot’s innovation.
Dietary Nitrates and Performance Enhancement
One of the most widely studied nitric oxide precursors is dietary nitrate (NO3-), traditionally sourced from beetroot. Nitrate supplementation is linked to:
Improved muscle efficiency
Enhanced fatigue resistance
Increased aerobic performance
While beetroot is commonly studied, our research identified amaranth (Amaranthus hypochondriacus) as an alternative source rich in nitrates (9–11% NO3-).

Potassium Nitrate and Healthy Aging
Nitric oxide also plays a vital role in the biology of healthy aging, with metabolic, immunological, and anti-inflammatory effects.
A study on Drosophila melanogaster (fruit flies) showed that potassium nitrate supplementation increased lifespan by up to 18.6% and improved motor function.
Long-term animal studies found that dietary potassium nitrate had no carcinogenic effects, while potentially protecting organs against aging-related changes (full study here).
These findings strengthen the case for potassium nitrate as a safe and beneficial supplement for longevity and functional health.
Potassium Nitrate and Muscle Strength
Potassium nitrate supplementation has also been tested in controlled studies on muscle force and structure:
Mice fed a potassium nitrate diet showed a 38% increase in muscle-specific force and a 13% increase in muscle mass compared to controls (see full MDPI study).
No negative histological effects were observed, confirming safety while highlighting performance potential.
These results point to nitric oxide precursors as a pathway to improved muscle health, strength, and recovery.
Case Studies with NoxShot
Beyond laboratory findings, we track real-world applications through case studies.
In one case, an athlete incorporated NoxShot supplements into a pre-competition training routine and experienced measurable improvements in endurance, recovery, and performance outcomes.
